The beginning of this week I was so proud that I was sticking so close to my training plan, didn’t wimp out on my speedwork or anything. Then I got swamped at work and stuck in traffic and before I knew it I was taking a rest day because I was so busy. But that is going to happen and you can only plan around so much.
I did surprisingly stick to my goals. Ran 1 run outside (it is cold, don’t be a hater), cross trained and did speedwork and a long run. That is still a win in my book.
Sunday: 7 miles
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: Speedwork=2-1 miles @ 6:52 and 6:49, 4-800s @ 3:15, 3:13, 3:12 and 3:09. Plus warm up and cool down=7 miles
Wednesday: 5 Miles
Thursday: :( stuck in traffic for over 2 hours so I took a rest day instead
Friday: 6.2 miles at a super fast pace ![]()
Saturday: 12 miles at 8:30 pace
and went to yoga
Total Mileage: 37 miles
What do you when you have to miss a workout? Make it up on another rest day? Just take the rest day and move on with your schedule? Squeeze it in no matter what?

As of lately, if I take a rest day I just leave it at that. I tell myself my body needs it. And then I grab a glass of wine.
i am a masochist. if i miss a workout (unless it was due to death illness) i usually double up a workout day. i’ve found that 2 a days speed me along although i can’t keep those up for more than a couple weeks.
