Looking at my mileage it looks like I am tapering off a few weeks early. But really I am having some problems with my IT band. Like right now, I have an awesome gangsta limp. Frustrating, but I keep reminding myself that when I BQ’d in Cleveland I had taken 2 weeks off running (around this same time), to have my wisdom teeth out (my face swelled like a chipmunk for an entire week and took 9 days before I could have solid foods again) and my longest run at that point was only 18 miles.
If I can get my IT band better that would be great but right now there will be a whole lot of resting, foam rolling and stretching. Elliptical doesn’t seem to bother that so I am doing that when I can.
Sunday: 7 miles around Boston
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 5 Miles
Wednesday: 5 miles
Thursday: 50 mins on the elliptical
Friday: 50 mins on the elliptical
Saturday: Rest
Total Mileage: 14 miles
I am still planning on running the 10 miler this weekend and I ran the Glass City Half marathon yesterday. Recap tomorrow
Anyone else having injuries while training? Kind of impossible not to.

I was just reading a few of your marathon recaps. You’re a beast in the best way. I got through training for Glass City without injuries. I did, however, get a horrible cold shortly before I had planned to begin tapering, which robbed me of a second 20-miler. Fortunately, I was able to stay positive. Good luck feeling better and I look forward to reading about your Glass City experience! Looks like you had an awesome race!
Wow, are we in the same place? I feel I have been tapering early, too, and injured — but I really should attempt one more 20 this weekend. Though I may not. We’ll get there, though, right? Keep it up!
ohhh no I didn’t know you were having IT issues until you tweeted it after the race yesterday… I hope you can nip it so it doesn’t bother you during Cle!!!!!
Good luck in your final weeks! Be smart & cautious what that IT Band, I was not and it sidelined me for almost a year! Lots of icing, stretching, foam rolling and core strengthening has helped me. Pool running worked wonders for me too!
I hear ya! Mile 13 of the Glass City Marathon, had a major IT Band strike. I ran through and still finished ok, but after the foot problem I had a couple weeks ago, the last thing I need is some ITBS. You’re ready though, if you slowed down now and tapered early, you’d still do awesome. So take care of yourself!
Foam roll. Take care!!
Great job taking some extra time to rest that IT. You’ve got a great base built and are gonna rock that BQ on 5/20!!
tell your IT Band to behave or else i’m going to come at it with the heel of my hand!!
