This weekend was the first weekend in a long time where I didn’t have anything planned. The past couple months of weekends have been filled with going to the Boston Marathon, Glass City Half Marathon, Cleveland Marathon, concerts and holidays (Mother’s Day and Memorial Day). Last weekend consisted of 4 cookouts. I was really looking forward to this weekend where I had nothing to do but relax. Since we didn’t have anything going on for once, Ryan suggested we go out to dinner on Saturday night. I instantly agreed and he made a reservation for us at Momocho.
8am-10am
Saturday morning, Ryan was registered for a race and since I’m not running much yet, I decided to go with him to cheer him on. Ryan was being a little weird, distant even. I asked him if anything was wrong but he said no. I thought maybe he was nervous about the race or just tired (It was nerves; I just didn’t know it yet). It was a little colder than I expected for the first weekend in June, but I as long as I was in the sun I was ok. (I swear that me telling you it was cold has a point later on) Since my IT Band had been feeling good lately, I decided to warm up with Ryan to test it out. Warming up/cooling down before/after races is one of our favorite things to do together. We can talk about the race and pick out goals and after the race we can discuss how it went. Ryan ran this race like a true champ and was the first overall finisher! Not a bad start to a very important day.
After the race, we went for a 2 mile cool down and then chatted with some running friends. Completely normal day for us…so far.
12pm-3pm
For the afternoon we both had different things going on. Ryan was being a good boy and going to church, while I was going home to lie down and take a nap. I was really tired and wasn’t feeling too good (allergies and a cranky stomach). I told Ryan I wasn’t feeling well but assured him I would be fine in time for dinner (cue more nerves for him). I took some allergy meds and was just waiting for them to kick in. The nap was short lived. My friend Jackie was going to be in the area and wanted to grab drinks. She only lives an hour away, but I can’t resist hanging out when she is in my area (Yes, I skipped church and went to the bar, for the record Jackie had no idea of Ryan’s plan). Just before Ryan went to church though, he had texted me to say his legs were tight from the morning and wanted to know if we could go for a walk after church to loosen them up. Of course, I said yes. I love to be active and I am a firm believer that if you keep moving it helps to keep you from being sore. He thought I might say no to the walk since it was a little chilly out for me. I thought nothing of him wanting to go for a walk (For the record we have never gone to just walk before; I should have caught on here that something was going on).
4pm-5pm
All the while, my Mom knew that it was a big day (Ryan had a talk with her about a month in advance. I am pretty shocked that she was able to keep a huge secret from me) and she was a little concerned when she saw Ryan’s foursquare check-in to church and mine into the Winking Lizard.
I was a little rushed in the afternoon. I wasn’t planning on doing anything until dinner time so figured I had all day to shower and get ready. When Jackie called and wanted to hang out, I quickly hopped in the shower and just threw my hair up into a messy bun; I figured I could finish getting ready later. So when Ryan came over after church, I was not ready. We still had hours before we were to go out to dinner so I had plenty of time. Even though I was not ready I asked if he just wanted to go walk now or if I should get ready first. He wanted to go right away so we went…
6pm…

HAHAHAHAHA. i love that your mom has foursquare!!!
Ah! I somehow didn’t even know you were engaged! HOORAY!!!!
Congratulations! Anxiously waiting for the next installment!
How come you always think I can’t keep a secret!?!?!
