Not long after we got engaged, I had decided on how I wanted our save the dates to look. I didn’t want our engagement pictures on them. Everyone does that and I wanted something a little different. Plus we weren’t didn’t do engagement pictures right away and I wanted to get the save the dates done before I got busy with other wedding stuff. I also wanted the save the dates to be pink (my favorite color and one of our wedding colors) and wanted them to be reflective of a race bib.
I scratched out our names to keep our identities a secret in the blog world. Which is pretty dumb because a.) I have a blog, b.) it would take very little detective work to figure out our last names and c.) if you know us in real life you know our names.
I designed the Save The Dates myself using Microsoft Publisher. One of my favorite programs, I am a dork like that but it’s also fairly easy to use once you play around with it. Then I uploaded my image into VistaPrint and had them printed onto magnets. They do all the printing for you and ship you the magnets and their prices were hard to beat.
For Christmas, my Mom got me a brand new printer so I printed the addresses right onto the envelopes (my handwriting is beyond hideous). I also downloaded a cool font from dafont.com
My office is the dining room table with my mini laptop (pint sized laptop?) and a tasty beer (wish I could remember what I was drinking).
Then I enlisted the help of my man (Ryan) and my sister (Lisa) to help stuff, stamp and seal the envelopes.
Not gonna lie, I had a good time making the save the dates and printing the envelopes. Also, doing my own invitations. (saves tons of money!) Perhaps a new job for me in the future….right after Vanna White retires and I take her job….
P.S. Tomorrow is a big day, do you know what it is? It’s not my birthday, it’s not wedding related, it doesn’t involve running but I may celebrate with cake.

The beer you were drinking was Ballast Point Victory at Sea Imperial Vanilla Coffee Porter
(since you said you wish you could remember)
Of course you remember! I remembered that it was good and I liked it!
these are too cute! what a great idea!!!
I really loved your save the dates! Perhaps the most creative and personal one ever! Did your condo sell???
Not yet but I did have someone go back for a second look but no offers yet. Hoping it sells soon because that would be some awesome extra wedding money!
I did my own invites and such, too. They’re so much more personalized that way!
Cute!
I love them! I really like that they are unique and fun and so YOU! For ours, we picked out a postcard of Central Park (where we got engaged) and personalized them online with a picture that was taken of us right after we got engaged. We’ve just started looking at invitations – we may need to talk about how you are doing them yourself. I love that idea!
Those are so perfect! I just did postcards because I’m lame. But vistaprint is pretty awesome. I wish I would’ve had more time to make more things for ours (I was planning on making our invitations and programs and everything) but with school on top of work I didn’t get the chance (and I really am sad!) I need to enlist some help for the invites that just were delivered yesterday. I can’t believe wedding season is so close!
Mmm.. Coffee beer.
So fun! I made our wedding invites by hand and I’m really glad I did. We did not have save the dates tho.
Even before I started reading I could tell that was a race bib! I love it, you are a creative genius!
I was extremely pleased to discover this web site. I need to
to thank you for your time just for this wonderful read!! I definitely loved every bit of it and I
have you book-marked to check out new information on your web site.

LOVE the save the dates! May have to steal that one day!
Your save the dates are so cute – great idea with the running theme!
seriously? those save teh dates are so perfect for you guys!!!
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours
would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Appreciate it
Excellent article. I will be experiencing some of
these issues as well..
