If you saw my tweets on Sunday you might have thought I was going through a Bridezilla moment. I kinda hate that I just called myself a Bridezilla. But before we talk about Sunday’s awful registry experience, Let’s talk about Saturday’s awesome registry experience.
We decided this weekend would be a good time to start registering and headed to Crate and Barrel. It’s a smaller store so it was a good kick off to registering, without being overwhelmed. Bride Tip: Let’s the man scan! Most guys do not enjoy registering, letting them handle the gun keeps them occupied.
When we walked into Crate and Barrel, we were instantly helped. They immediately walked over to grab us a scanner, showed us how to use it and sent us on our way. We were free to roam the store and scan away. For our first registry experience, it was great. I’d say in under 45 mins (and 2 laps around the store, and multiple sit breaks) we were done and satisfied with what we scanned. Printed our registry off at the registry kiosk, handed in our scanner and we were done.
But not after some selfies in the giant mirror.
It was so quick and easy that we decided on Sunday morning we would go to Bed, Bath and Beyond to do some more registering. Especially while items were still fresh in our heads. I heard BBB has an awesome return policy as well as a large selection (we were planning on registering for A LOT there). When we walked in we were directed to the wedding area (a cold small office, with a broken computer). We waited a few minutes, the manager came over to introduce himself and said the wedding coordinator would come to help us. Couple mins turned into 15 but whatever. The wedding coordinator introduces herself then has to leave to go upstairs to use a computer because the one in the room doesn’t work. So we wait a couple more minutes.
Finally, she has all our information (we filled everything out online prior to coming in, otherwise who knows how long that would have taken) and hands us a bunch of books to go through. Much of the luggage, china and other dining items were not in store, you had to pick them out of a book (could have done that online, had I known). Finally, we were told she would take us around the store. We took this as, show us popular items and where certain departments were etc. Oh boy were we wrong!
For over 2 hours, we were walked around, showed items and basically had to decide, on the spot, whether we wanted them or not. No time to discuss or talk it over as a couple. Not once did she leave us or even let us scan on our own. Even went as far as to scan things that were “popular registry items” or “things most brides like”. Maybe I was wrong but I thought that this was our registry and we could scan for things, we as a couple wanted. This was a HUGE waste of our day and a horrible registry experience. After looking at wedding forums, I learned that this is common for BBB now.
We were both pretty mad about this experience and wrote an email explaining our experience and how disappointed we were. The next day, all of the items on our registry had been deleted! We had already decided we were going to take our business elsewhere but were surprised to see them delete our registry. My advice, if you really want to register at BBB, do so online. Don’t waste your time in their store.
Since then, I have looked into registering at other places such as Kohls, who carries similar brands as BBB and also Target. I mean, who doesn’t love shopping at Target. But Target now let’s you register from your iPhone!!!
You can add to, delete from and update your registry at any Target Store, online or on mobile. Use the Target iPhone app’s barcode scanner in multiple scan mode to add new items fast.
How cool is that? You don’t even need a scanner, you already have one, your phone!
So tell me your registering stories, good or bad. What’s 1 thing you registered for that you love and get a lot of use of and what’s 1 thing you registered for and never use.

Thanks insane!
We went to Target and REI. Target we did in store with the scanner, made changes online, and had a great experience! REI was awesome, all online and no hassle. Hopefully your BBB replacement goes well!
That stinks! We registered at Crate and Barrel, Williams Sonoma, and Macy’s and had great experiences everywhere. Because I have a Macy’s card, we earned credits from registry purchases and got a $160+ gift card after the wedding!
Totally love my Jimmy Buffet margarita maker. Not practical, but fun. I registered for a lot of pantry containers and have yet to transfer stuff into them.
We did Target and Kohls. Target has a funny return policy tho. My advice would be whatever store, be sure to register for gift cards. It’s so hard to decide what you really need or use and we ended up thinking we wanted waffle makers and coffee makers and then never used them. It’s only like a year after you are married you might start to realize what you really need! BBB – overpriced IMHO, so we didn’t even consider them. Good luck!
Wow! That’s crazy! I’ve been thinking we should start doing this too so I’ll be sure to avoid BB+B. I’ve been using MyRegisty.com – you can compile all your registries into this one spot and even register for things on Etsy, or anywhere else on the web.
I’ve never registered for anything, but thanks for the future tip about BB&B! Sounded terrible for sure! And love the Target registry with phone idea, so high tech and awesome! Hopefully future registries go well for you!
Oh wow that’s weird! We registered at C&B (did one of their store is closed registry events), BB&B and Target. C&B is my FAV!! The 10% completion card you get after you’re married applies to ANYTHING. It doesn’t HAVE to be on your registry to get the 10% off. BB&B we did not have someone do that to us. We were free to roam, did and ultimately I added a bunch online. Was easier that way. Then annoying I ended up picking things that were online only. Oh well! It worked out in the end!
The items we use most are our knives. Good knives aren’t cheap, so there’s no better way to get them than by having someone else pay for them! The item we use least (ahem, not at all) is a set of decorative beveled mirrors from Target. They’re still in the original box. Joe actually just mentioned on Sunday that we ought to get around to finding a place to hang them.
Although they only offer kitchen goodies, I suggest doing a registry at Williams-Sonoma. They have so much awesome stuff and they, as most places should, gave us freedom to boop away with our scanner. Good luck!
We registered at Kohls and Bed Bath and Beyond. We had a similar experience to yours with registering at BB&B(I think it is typical and we were actually warned by friends before we went to expect it to take 2-3 hours) although our salesperson only took us around the fine china area and gave us a general tour of the store. She left us along with the guns after that, but it took her little spiel about 1.5 hours! Even though that part was a headache I am happy we did register there because of the wide variety of household stuff they carry. Kohls I would definitely recommend to register. Super easy and they offer I think 10% off if the person buying spends over $50.
ugh – what an annoying waste of your day. i think i avoided this frustration there because i flat out said we didn’t have a lot of time and just wanted to walk around by ourselves (we had all night but i was borderline hangry!).
good luck! i’ve heard Macy’s is great, too.
you’ll looooove the C&B stuff you get.
The trip to Crate and Barrel sounded nice! Oof, sorry BBB was such a nightmare. I probably would have just left. I definitely would not call that a bridezella moment! We registered at Target and REI — haha, so serious!
Our BBB experience was similar. However, we went back to update the registry this weekend and they just gave us the gun and left us alone, which was much better.
